  • No Initial Cost: There’s no fee to apply for sponsorship.
  • Support: Sponsors must provide financial support, accommodation, and help for the first two years after the visa holder arrives in Australia.
  • Assurance of Support: Sponsors might need to legally commit to repay any welfare payments made to the visa holder or their family.
  • Withdrawal: Sponsors can withdraw their sponsorship by writing to the Parent, Child, and Other Family Processing Centre in Perth before the visa decision. However, withdrawal isn’t allowed after the visa is granted.
  • Obligations: Sponsorship obligations last for two years. Sponsors must provide accommodation and financial aid, which must be documented in writing. If an assurance of support is given, sponsors must repay any social security payments made to the visa holder and their family during this time.
  • Updates: Sponsors must update authorities on any changes to their contact details, relationship status, or passport information to comply with visa guidelines.
