Additionally, to be invited to apply for a points-tested visa, the applicant must have
nominated an occupation that appears on the relevant skilled occupation list for that
particular visa subclass. The Australian government regularly updates these skilled
occupation lists, so applicants must ensure their nominated occupation is listed on the
appropriate skilled occupation list for their desired visa subclass to be eligible for an

Australian government has considered intense Global competition for talent. That is
why Australia is working to attract the best and brightest to the largest Island on the
world map. With an idea to attract top talent from around the world to contribute to the
growth and strength of its economy, the government has launched programs like
Under the Global Talent program, individuals who are highly skilled in one of the
Minister’s defined sectors (or a related sector) and currently earning, or likely to earn,
at or above the Fair Work high-income threshold should submit an Expression of
Interest (EOI) to expedite their visa application process. Successful EOI candidates
will receive a unique reference identifier and a code. Candidates are expected to have
assessed their eligibility against the subclass 858 visa requirements before lodging an
EOI, as a successful EOI does not guarantee that these requirements have been met.
EOIs are typically assessed in the order they are received, and departmental officers
no longer provide individual support to candidates.
The program mandates that businesses demonstrate the unavailability of suitable
candidates through existing skilled visa programs before sponsoring workers under
the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa via the GTES. This initiative aims to attract
globally mobile, highly-skilled individuals to Australia, serving as ‘job multipliers’ and
addressing critical needs within Australian businesses. Positions filled through GTES
agreements are expected to create new job opportunities for Australians and facilitate
the transfer of skills and knowledge to local workers, thereby contributing to the growth
and development of the Australian workforce. Participating businesses need to
demonstrate the realization of these opportunities throughout the GTES agreement
period.
