To apply for a skilled visa, you must first receive an invitation. Submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI)showcasing your work experience and qualifications helps the Government know about your interest and invites you to apply.

General eligibility criteria

To ensure your application is valid, you must declare that you have a suitable skills assessment when you receive your invitation. Skills assessments obtained within the 60-day invitation period are now accepted following the Thapa v Minister for Immigration decision. The Minister will adhere to this decision but may challenge it in court. Make sure to include a copy of your skills assessment with your application.

For medical and legal practitioners, acceptable proof includes full medical registration, conditional specialist registration, or admission to practice law. Your skills assessment must be recent (within the last three years) and, if based on an Australian qualification, must come from a CRICOS-registered course. It would help if you were younger than 45 when you received the invitation. You will not be invited to apply if you turn 45 before receiving an invitation.
